From Bugzilla Helper: User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Win98; en-US; rv:0.9.1) Gecko/20010607 BuildID: 2001060703 The my.yahoo.com page works fine, but if I hit any of the news stories (beginning with dailynews.yahoo.com) it drops into Japanese Shift-JIS encoding and thus drops into MS Gothic for the story body, which is ugly. If you manually drop into View/Character Encoding and select "Western" then everything's fine. I looked at the source code and didn't see anything obvious. Don't know a good way to see HTTP headers on Windows but I don't have this problem with any other browsers. You can actually see the page load up in standard Times Roman, and then a fraction of a second later switch into MS Gothic. Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1.Go to my.yahoo.com 2.Pick any of the dailynews stories 3. Actual Results: I saw the news story in MS Gothic Expected Results: Should have been in standard fonts I do have all the Japanese/Chinese/etc stuff installed & working over in IE. I also have one Adobe font installed which means that Adobe Font Manager has to be installed too. Aside from that it's a pretty vanilla win98 box.
I can reproduce this when I set "View->Character Coding->Auto-Detect" to Japanese. Possibly the page has non ASCII byte sequence to fool the detector.

Tim, could you check you auto-detect setting, if that off or something is selected?

I got an e-mail from the reporter. Auto detect was set to Japanese. I cannot reproduce this with NS6.01. Auto detection quality issue, reassign to ftang.
