The mozregistry.dat file currently lives in a system directory. On windows machines it's in the system's windows directory. Attempting to implement something like run from CD wouldn't work unless we have write access to that directory. It would be better to be able to have the registry live with the app in this case.

Bing able to start from CD can help tremendously in the custom distribution market (ISPs, electronic books etc.).

MOZILLA_FIVE_HOME or the user's home dir ("Documents", I think)? The latter would allow a user to create new profiles.
Documents is the home on mac.. Also, we have been receiving suggestions about the location for new registry. For full discussion, please follow.... news://news.mozilla.org/3998CB14.A6D8DDD6%40netscape.com
