STR 1. Open a new tab. 2. Click the back button. 3. The button shows the "depressed" focus state even though it is disabled. On OS X 10.9 Nightly 2014-02-14 (and likely 02-12, 02-13, I updated a couple times today). Did some debugging with MattN, it was reproducible in Safe Mode but not with a new profile or in Private Browsing.
Attached file browser.uiCustomization.state value (deleted) —
I couldn't reproduce this and browser.uiCustomization.state didn't really give hints other than the fact that the leftover stuff is still there probably because the profile switched from Australis to pre-Australis and back without making changes the first time. I repro'd this scenario and still couldn't reproduce the bug.

Summary: Back button has focus state when disabled → Back button has pressed state when disabled
Whiteboard: [Australis:P4] → [Australis:P5]
Well, next time it happens, inspect the back button with the browser toolbox, then copy the entire element here. To enable the browser toolbox : - Open DevTools - Go to the settings - Check "Enable Chrome Debugging" and "Enable remote debugging".
(In reply to Tim Nguyen [:ntim] from comment #2) > Well, next time it happens, inspect the back button with the browser > toolbox, then copy the entire element here. *Entire #back-button element
I was unable to reproduce the bug.
