User Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 6.1; WOW64; rv:29.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/29.0 (Beta/Release) Build ID: 20140506152807 Steps to reproduce: On Thunderbird Version 30, when you do either reply or forward, the HTML turns into Text. If you hit Shift as you do this, it does provide HTML. All versions that I have used before this when you select reply or forward, it will maintain the HTML with the selection. Actual results: You are no longer able to get the ability to forward a message with the original HTML as is. Expected results: In all previous version of Thunderbird before version 30, you would just be able to forward or reply with a replica of the original message. The file that I have included shows the HTML of the original message reduced to text.

It appears that the composition window has switched to plain-text mode. Does this only happen with replies or also with new messages? Check the settings in Tools > Account Settings > (account) > Composition & Addressing if "Compose messages in HTML format" is enabled. Also, please try Help > Restart with Add-ons Disabled (no need to check any of the make permanent boxes) to see if a customization or add-on is causing or contributing to this issue.
This only happens with replies. I have the options set to send out my mail as HTML. This bug must have surfaced between version 29 and 30 of Thunderbird. I can send a Reply out as HTML if I hit Shift along with selection reply. It seems to happen with any message that I try to reply to. If I restart with all add ons disable, it still comes up as blue text. Ron Geiken
WFM. Which way do you do the reply (a menu item, button, shortcut?)

When I press Shift on Keyboard and then select reply with the mouse, it allows me to reply, but my settings in the options is to start the reply at the top, but doing this starts at bottom of message. If you just select reply, the you get a purple text show up as the reply message. This function was working OK in previous versions of TB, so this has happened in the a recent update. Ron Geiken
Have you checked that account (identity) has "Compose mails in HTML format" checked? It's under Account Settings | Composition & Addressing"
Resolving as Worksforme because there are no steps to reproduce and the reporter didn't reply to the last question. Ron, if you still see this issue with Thunderbird 31.1.1 or higher, please let us know and also tell us if "Compose mails in HTML format" has been checked. It's under Account Settings | Composition & Addressing".
