automationutils.py is sort of the proto-mozbase: it was a bunch of stuff that we needed to share between Mochitest, Reftest, and the xpcshell test harnesses. Nowadays we're still copying this file around the tree even though we have nice mozbase modules to use. We should purge automationutils and put everything in it into mozbase. This might be best done as a bunch of smaller bugs.
Let's use this as a tracking bug; I'll start to file individual bugs for various pieces of it.
