The awesomebar is one of the areas of the UI that didn't benefit from the Australis redesign. In this spike, we want to explore options to improve the clarity and scanability of the awesomebar.

Did you consider including bug 768703 in this refresh? That has been wanted for years.

Sevaan had a mockup with larger favicons. We decided against it since the larger icons actually made the list harder to scan. The jaggedness of the left edge of the list currently provides good visual anchors which we would lose when switching to larger icons.
32px might still be useful in other places though.

Yes. Basically the 16x16 favicons serve as bullet points, which makes it easier for the eye to latch onto a row.
