Setup: 1. Work notebook running latest TB 24.6.0. 2. Private notebook running TB 31.0 current beta. Both machines are running. Scenario: 1. I receive an e-mail in Gmail and it gets filed to Inbox. 2. I read it on TB 24.6.0. 3. I then either choose to archive, delete or keep it. Doesn't matter. 4. I then later find that, on my private notebook, TB hasn't sync'ed the changes. "Later" being sometimes hours later, so a) The mail I read is still unread, b) The mail I moved to Archive is still there, and possibly still unread, c) The mail I moved to trash is also still there. Things I tried: 1. Switching to another folder or another account and returning to Gmail inbox. Result: No update. 2. Hitting F5 to refresh the Gmail account does not update TB 31's view of the world, either. 3. Shutdown and restart Thunderbird: Result: Now it updates. If I do the above with the opposite set of devices, e. g. read and move messages from TB 31, TB 24.6.0 immediately picks up the changes and updates its view consistently. I never have to shut it down and restart it for it to catch up. Other IMAP accounts hosted elsewhere are fine, not affected by this. And when the Windows 8.1 machine (private notebook) was still on 24, this did not happen, either, it always updated itself. So I am seeing a regression here in 31 with regards to Gmail updating if another client updates stuff in the Gmail setup.
Perhaps I've also seen something like this reported in support forum. xref bug 958716.
On a more personal level, I've seen random syncing flakiness when using gmail over several months - and I use nightly, so I've been on version 31+ for several months now.

Marcoz, do you see this if you use 38 https://www.mozilla.org/en-US/thunderbird/all-beta.html ?
Flags: needinfo?(mzehe)
Nope, I don't. I am on beta now, and this somehow went away in the middle of the beta cycle between 31 and 38 I think.

Thanks for the update
