Among these, the possibility to annotate mail bodys (as we would in real life do with higlighter pens or sticky notes) strikes me as a fundamental safeguard against loss of information. Such a feature would be long to implement but would fast become a key search and navigation functionality in everyday archive digging/organizing tasks of this age of web semantics and big data. Practically, this implies the ability to add, edit, display, store and index a sort of "user notes" (eg annotations, highlighted texts, category tags) referencing any given mail fragment (defined for instance by selecting the text in message reader UI).
