It often just gets stuck without making any progress towards actually playing the video

This is an example that I ran into: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SKLnGhwWtoc Once it is stuck, any seeking afterwards also doesn't work. I can reproduce the problem by seeking early in the load process of the video.

Seems to be fine in a Nightly on Win 8.1. Looking at right-click -> Stats for Nerds, I'm being served MP4, 360p, DASH: no. Are you testing with media.mediasource.enabled set? (DASH: yes) If not, do you see the problem with media.fragmented-mp4.exposed disabled?

Thanks, there are some known issues, I'll make this depend on the existing bug tree and we can revisit once the bug tree has been burnt down a bit.

If bug 1059058 wasn't landed then you would have hit this a lot. With it landed you can be hitting bug 1062670 and bug 1062055 which both give symptoms that you describe. The latter bug is the most likely where we hit end of stream on one of the segments and can't recover.

I hit this constantly on youtube (on Yosemite and Win8.1), the last video I checked was h.264 mainline w/ dash, I assume the only known remaining bug to handle this is bug 1062055? it's very annoying, not rare for me.

Mak or Jeff, is this still a problem for you?

I still see occasional seeking problems.

Yeah, I just reproduced seeking that doesn't that never starts playback again and just spins the throbber for ever.

This was on OS X with dash/vp9

on Windows it seems to be working much better, I just tried a bunch of Youtube videos and I've been unable to reproduce.

cajbir, is it time to revisit this since the bugs you mentioned have all landed bug Jeff still sees this? Not for 36 since that's Windows-only, but for whichever release we're targeting to enable for mac?

If the problem is occuring with Dash/MP4 then we definitely will be working on it for 37.
