Yes correct I asked for a bug to be filed so that we could get the details in one place. I'm trying to get out of the middle in email, where I can. I see it appears bug 239914 is stalled and is suffering from too many comments. Do we have a clear way forward there? Is it suitable to be a mentored bug?

It'd need someone who knows GTK/widget to mentor it. I am definitely not that person, even if I can say at a general level that bug 239914 comment #32 / bug 239914 comment #35 have some hints about where to look for the solution.

If I may add a suggestion: It is a very good and very convenient feature, that the browser autodetects the users theme settings, but why not give him the choice? If not a button or checkbox somewhere at least a about:config option to turn high contrast on. So if autodetection breaks for what reasons ever, there is at least still the possibility to use it. Right now the user depends on autodetection.

This is already possible by using Preferences > Content > Colors, and then unticking "Allow pages to choose their own colors, instead of my selections above".
The only difference is that in high contrast themes on windows, ticking this box (to see web authors' content again) has no effect.
