Details
User Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 6.1; rv:29.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/29.0 SeaMonkey/2.26.1
Build ID: 20140612174402
Steps to reproduce:
Seamonkey version 2.29 downloaded and updated
Actual results:
afterwards, my email stopped downloading new messages from the server on 2 different computers (one running XP and one running Win 7).
Expected results:
emails should have continued downloading as usual from the server. Workaround: I reloaded 2.26 and stopped the automatic update of seamonkey. Back in business until the bug is fixed.
POP or IMAP?
Who is your mail provider?
Any indication of a login issue? Or does mail provide any other details on the failure itself?
Any change if you disable firewall/antivirus?
This is the sending side, but maybe something there will provide a clue?

Same here. In Wireshark you can see a TLSv1 Alert. It's stuck in a loop, no error message.
Workaround is setting security.use_mozillapkix_verification to false OR plaintext login to mailserver. Problem is, when setting that parameter to false i cannot log onto my firewall. "CA invalid"
Provider over here is domainfactory. Cert for POP/IMAP http://www.df.eu/fileadmin/media/downloads/sslmailpool.cer
Cert for SMTP http://www.df.eu/fileadmin/media/downloads/smtprelaypool.cer
Settings for POP3s/995 as shown in their tutorials.

I also noticed that the problem that I am having is that when seamonkey tries to log in to the Cox.net mail server, it gets to the point of sending my stored password to Cox and that is where it is hanging and that is why the mail is not getting downloaded. A little further checking shows that my entire list of stored passwords is no longer being displayed in version 2.29. However, when I reloaded version 2.26.1, the passwords are again present and being displayed, so it looks to me (from my limited programming abilities) that something in 2.29 isn't working in the password manager section of sea monkey.
Hope this helps to identify the problems.
> my entire list of stored passwords is no longer being displayed in version 2.29
Different issue.
Follow the trail, Bug 1062297 - All saved passwords gone after update.
It is possibly the same issue.
I had the same problem. I could no longer download any new email messages after the upgrade from 2.261 to 2.29
I also noticed (guessed) that passwords were not being sent to the mail servers, and then found that in - about:data - passwords (& also permissions & preferences) were not available to be seen.
A check showed that saved passwords could not be retrieved for logging in to websites.
Quick fix was reinstalling 2.261

Component: General → MailNews: Backend
Problem is solved in Version 2.30. If you still face any problems delete the corresponding exception/imported certificate within cert manager. In about:config set security.use_mozillapkix_verification to true and try again.
