Didn't want to issue a pull request just yet this branch sits on top of the one for bug 1069197, but it is ready otherwise.

Github branch (compared to the branch for bug 1069197)

I did not had the time to read the python tests (I'm trying to solve another bug), but the JS changes are looking good.

PS: this will conflict with my patch for Bug 1030798 (https://github.com/mozilla-b2g/gaia/pull/23979/files)
