Steps to reproduce:

1. Enable Electrolysis.
2. Open a new tab so that you see the new tab page.

looks like a dupe of bug 1037760

Possibly, but middle click seems to be working correctly for other links. It appears to be specific to the tiles on the new tab page. Also, that bug says that it is opening a blank tab, while in this case no new tab is opened.
The new tab page runs in the parent process, so this bug may be a special case of bug 1037760.

Will - I'm unable to reproduce this... if you have dom.ipc.processCount > 1, this is probably a dupe of bug 1037760.

Please ping this bug if you don't have dom.ipc.processCount > 1, and I'll re-open and dig in more.

I also suffer from this bug - it makes really hard to use E10S comfortably. And i have dom.ipc.processCount set to 1.
But it is inconsistent. Sometimes it reacts sometimes it doesn't. Even switching to another tab and back can alter this behavior. So it is tricky to reproduces. It seems to depends somehow on what is going on in other tabs.
I have gmail, translate.google.com, twitter as pinned tabs - without them it is much harder to catch the bug, But with them even very first new tab page opened may fail to react on middle click. Anyway if i repeat opening of new tab page and middleclicking some entries there i catch this bug quite soon.
