User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.0; en-US; rv:0.9.5+)
Gecko/20011031
BuildID: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.0; en-US; rv:0.9.5+)
Gecko/20011031
I have two Win2000 boxes. Both have the below version of Mozilla installed and
both have a profile that says run Mail on startup. One does and one doesn't.
The one that doesn't, always runs the browser.
The following is from my prefs file:
user_pref("general.startup.browser", false);
user_pref("general.startup.mail", true);
Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.0; en-US; rv:0.9.5+) Gecko/20011031
Reproducible: Always
Steps to Reproduce:
Run Mozilla and select the profile
Actual Results: I have two Win2000 boxes. Both have the below version of
Mozilla installed and both have a profile that says run Mail on startup. One
does and one doesn't. The one that doesn't, always runs the browser.
Expected Results: Should run mail on startup

The prefs.js file on one box has this:
user_pref("general.startup.browser", false);
user_pref("general.startup.mail", true);
and the prefs.js from the other box doesn't?
Even though you set them up the same with the prefs UI?
Component: Profile Manager BackEnd → XP Apps

Are you using quick launch on one machine but not the other? If you are, this
is a dup of bug 99321, "turbo mode does not honor pref to start mail-news and
browser at launch time".
I made sure quick launch was turned off and had the same results even after a
reboot.
-------
The prefs.js pasted into the posting are the same on the box that works and the
one that doesn't.

WORKS FOR ME
Windows 2000
./nightly/latest-1.0.0/
Build 2002041617
Reporter: In newer builds, you can set this by going to:
Edit | Prefernces | Appearance
Have you tried a new build? Can someone (reporter?) mark this as fixed or Works
for me?
Bug still exists as of 5/3/2002 nightly build

Similar: bug 140797, bug 146369
Reporter: On the machine where this happens:
Is the active sidebar tab the history tab?
What exactly are you asking? I have set the options to startup in email. The
start behaves as if I had set it to start the browser.
Do you have the sidebar enabled in mailnews?
If yes - unless already open, open it: Which tab is displaying there?

Sidebar? If you mean the list of folders... then Yes. If thats not what you
mean. Plesae define "sidebar"

You say you have two installations of which one works and one does not. Try to
diff the two prefs.js. Maybe this has some clue in it.

No change.

I can reproduce this, in this way:
Step:
1. Create two profile (p1 and p2);
2. Launch p1 and set preferences > Appearance > When Mozilla Starts Up, open;
3. Check "Mail & NewsGroup", uncheck others, Close and Exit;
4. Go to command line -> %PATH_TO_MOZILLA%/mozilla.exe -P p1
5. Browser appear, No Mail/News.
Mail/News appears correctly if:
4. Go to command line -> %PATH_TO_MOZILLA%/mozilla.exe
5. Select p1 from profile manager.
hope this helps.

just a 'mozilla -p <profile>' is enough to let this bug come up.

reporter, if you can confirm this
behaviour, this bug should be marked as
DUPL of bug 36231

I confirm it with a recent trunk build, so marking dup. Will put the way to
repro from comment #19 on that bug.
