As we are beginning to talk about communicating with our users using in-product pages, we should consider ways to make the start page, or something equivalent, more visible.
One possibility would be to take the default page that occurs when you select an account, which currently has some sparely-spaced menu items, and replace that with a split pane. Compress the existing items on the top, and add the start page at the bottom.

I believe that page is referred to as the "account central".

Certainly, there is enough room there to add something.
OTOH users go there infrequently (add a new account, change settings)
Also, they would always see it there..good for our visibility, but might be considered a constant nag.

No. No. No no no. No.
Finishing bug 489999 would be a much more valuable use of that space, and I certainly wouldn't mind if some other folks wanted to help me finish up Mail Summaries so that we can import it into Thunderbird.
