Currently, in Firefox, searching from the url bar is not possible. However, adding an option where hitting the TAB button after writing the web address would be a desirable feature.
Summary: Enable search on sites using the TAB button → Automatically offer custom search for websites that the user visits often
Philipp, I figured that this would be the kind of idea that could interest you.

As per the request in comment 0, searching from the URLBar is now possible, handling tab-to-search is bug 782557.

Therefore marking as duplicate of that bug, since we're handling those types of requests there.

(although the title was changed here slightly, I still think we'll need to assess the outcome of bug 782557 here before doing anything else).
