From Bugzilla Helper: User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; U; Linux i686; en-US; rv:0.9.6) Gecko/20011120 BuildID: 2001112012 In mail and news composition, text mode, the return key adds extra line feeds and behaves strangely on delete. Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1. Send yourself an E-mail saying foo bar 2. Hit "reply": Valentijn Sessink wrote: > foo > bar 3. Now go to the end of the "> foo" line and hit return. Voila: two newlines: > foo > bar 4. To make it even stranger, now type the "down" arrow (you are on the second newline now), then type "backspace". Your cursor will be at the end of "foo" now, where it should be on the first newline. 5. Type the down arrow again. You are on the newline below "foo" now. 6. Type "backspace" again. This deletes the "o" of "foo" - while you were not on the "foo" line! Actual Results: After hitting "return" once, you end up with two newlines. Expected Results: After hitting "return" once, you should end up with one newline. This seems related to #69638 (fixed), as I encounter various of these newline oddities during mail composition. I assume it is some <CR><LF> issue that was only - partly - resolved. I'm using Debian Potato. This bug has been there since I started using Mozilla as standard mailer, which is from version 0.9.4. Please note that this could mean the bug was there in older versions as well. I used both the Mozilla supplied version and a so called 'backport' from the Debian project, i.e. made it a Debian package. (set severity to "major" as this is a major annoyance during mail composition - which seems quite important. However, the bug has been here since 0.9.4 and has not been reported earlier, so you might want to set it to "normal")
sounds like an editor bug....
