Looks like we ship lots of Google Play Services assets… including stuff like G+ signin and "+1" buttons, the Play Services icon, and a bunch of actionbar icons. This can definitely be improved. Wes, Chris, do you have any thoughts here?

I saw this when I glanced around: http://tools.android.com/tech-docs/new-build-system/resource-shrinking Note, that requires that we proguard play services (or any libs we want to remove resources from), but I think we do that now anyway.

Adding another dependency that should help.

I just landed part 1 of bug 1106935 which removes the duplicated old tablet resources - however, it's only 4 or so pngs. Feel free to update the recorded size (e.g. comment 0). We did add some non-duplicated resources with new tablet (notably with xxhdpi sizing - old tablet did not use xxhdpi), which will have contributed to the increase.

This is a meta bug. If you want tracking nominate the individual bugs that are concrete improvements.
