start moz, load two tabs. load the following two urls, one in each tab: http://www.kernel.org/pub/linux/kernel/v2.4/ChangeLog-2.4.15 http://www.kernel.org/pub/linux/kernel/v2.5/README Switch between them, notice there's no icon (not even default) on URL bar. Switching to a text/html tab fixes it, until you switch FROM plain TO plain again. Linux 2001112111

Tried again with a new Linux build, 11/25... still seeing this.
Actually, make that 11/23... apperantly nightly builds are screwed up... downloaded this from latest/ today.

Something similar is also being triggered by switching between two differant bugzilla pages. For example, I have 4 tabs open right now, two are bugzilla URLs: http://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=111572 http://bugzilla.mozilla.org/enter_bug.cgi?product=Browser Do this. Click on one of the other tabs. You get it's icon. Click on eaither of the bugzilla tabs. Same icon that's on the tab pops in the URL bar. Great. Click the other. Now you get the old, default URL bar icon. Click the first one again, still the default. Click a non-bugzilla page. You get it's icon. If you click bugzilla again, the first time again, you get it's icon. And so on. Suggest target is reconsidered based on new, more common reproducable case. Not sure what priority UI touchups are, though.

Investigated some more. This seems to be CPU time-dependent. When switching from tab A to tab B, where both A and B have the same icons in the URL bar, if rendering the page in tab B takes enough time (0.5 or above would be my poor estimate), then the icon in the URL bar is set to the blank page. (It originally was just a blank space in place of an icon, but I suspect a change elsewhere has to some degree caught this invalid case, and at least set it to use the blank page icon.) So, since I have a P2 266, I see it more often then most. Try a larger page. Load these two: http://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=22274 http://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=113798 and flip between them. It's 100% reproducable here. Also note, Firebird is noticably slower and rendering a new tab if you flip "backwards" to it (with ctrl+pgup). That may help you observe this as well. Another test that this is a race condition. If I flip quickly through tabs with the same favicon, and don't give them the time to fully render, when I arrive at a tab in the middle, its favicon will display fince, despite having just run through a few identical ones. Also note: when I perform these tests on a local site with file:, THEN I get the blank space without any icon. This seems even more easily reproducable than the http: case. Even for small pages where there is no delay in displaying them, I lose the icon. Sometimes I don't even have to switch to another tab. I'll just click on the first file: tab, the icon will display as the page intially loads, and then about 0.5-1 seconds later, disapear. Reopening, there is definately still an issue here. And at least for me, on a slightly slower than average PC, it's very noticable and unprofessional looking.
