I wasn't able to reproduce this lately but I've seen it happen before and :kats just said that this happened as well.
STR: open calendar app until you see a black screen (app won't load).
app is probably trying to execute a DB operation before the connection is ready.
PS: the changes I'm making on startup performance (Bug 1079557) might fix this since I changed the order of a few things.

I saw this using gecko commit 60ab5910a15cda63b7d07981e36c0a0f703c004f (git, not hg) and gaia commit 8f8995f24ea9a0f5568b786f2c0668d6415de222.
As best as I can remember I did a local build, a ./flash.sh followed by make gaia-reset and make reference-workload-medium. I was working on some gecko stuff so I had a did ./flash.sh gecko a few times and then when I tried to reproduce bug 1117712 I ran into this bug. Doing another ./flash.sh and make gaia-reset seems to have fixed it.
