Steps to reproduce:

One of the casualties of Lollipop is branding. Google's guidelines have removed all branding from the primary UI. Many android designers are okay with this in a means to retain the cohesive feel of the platform and have accepted the branding space within the navigation drawer as a means to tell users what app they're using.

However, when Google Play initially launched its Lollipop makeover, they had a small animation that set the Android blogesphere abuzz, it was the animation from the hamburger to the back arrow.

I feel we should exploit those same kinds of animations, now obviously that animation is gone as the Play team pulled the product in-line with the guidelines and placed the drawer over the action bar, but what if we animated our tab icon into the banding channel logo?

It's just an idea, but if we decide to stick with a tabs tray that drops down from the top, it's a means of branding within the UI and having something to fill that big grey space to the right of the location box.
