Starting sometime after December 26, the text box isn't working properly. If I click on a text box, for example, the google advanced search page, or at the top of the bugzilla.mozilla.org page, a menu of suggestions appears. Previously I could select one of the items and it would be copied into the search box. Now a left-click (or a right-click) will select an item, but the search box remains empty, and I have to type the text into the box manually. I'm seeing this on today's nightly (38.0a1 (2015-01-12)). My previously working nightly download was December 12, but I've also seen this starting around January 5-6 with private builds from the mercurial distribution from mozilla-central.

Behavior is the same whether I enable or disable E10S. Tested with this morning's nightly.

maybe Bug 1120236 if you have removed the search bar from UI.

Yup. Restoring the default search bar does indeed fix the issue reported here.
