Is there a variable that I can use for a user's mail server pop3
userid? So that rather than having to type it in when the first profile
is created, the variable would pick it up from say a NT or 95 network
login id (or somewhere like that).

Strange and similar behaviour on my account on www.inmail.sk (via
pop3.inmail.sk). Thunderbird (0.8) behaves like there are no new messages
(connects and disconnects withou any error), but there are messages to download.
Other mail programs behave correctly. It started just after the installation of
0.8, does not work on fresh profile and reinstall of Thunderbird. After changing
same account parameters to download mails from a different server than
pop3.inmail.sk, it works.

This bug is filed in a bugzilla component related to pre-Firefox code which no longer exists. I believe it is no longer relevant and I am therefore closing it INCOMPLETE.
If you believe that this bug is still valid and needs to be fixed, please reopen it and move it to the Toolkit:Startup and Profile System product/component.
