This appears to be something that Safari is doing currently
As a fallback, if we are unable to capture a quality image, we should derive the dominant colour from the favicon and apply it to our generic site (globe) icon.

The first four icons in the group are Google (blue), Apple (grey), Yahoo (purple) and Amazon (yellow).
No longer in scope.
