Bug 447660 fixed some bugs and enabled "float breaking in columns" in non-RELEASE builds. It's been enabled there for ~3 months now. I think we can now enable it everywhere and let it ride the trains.

I guess it's a nice improvement for sites that are using it though (Wikipedia is using it on some pages). The feature can be described as "Floats are now fragmented in column layout". I made this small testcase so you can compare the layout with FF37 and older. I'll let you decide if you think it's worth a note.
