Starting with 39 addons will need to be certified to work with Firefox. Our current plan is to turn off any uncertified addons that users may have installed and redirect them to AMO for alternatives and SUMO for explanation. Therefore it would be great to have a SUMO page explaining why we certify addons. https://docs.google.com/a/mozilla.com/document/d/1klBryEj8x6dBkyVY92TATDSarLYuSmL3lXIHTj8M4Z0/edit https://docs.google.com/a/mozilla.com/document/d/1Hu7SzZd9ekDUkudTdsG_nteuQqBYj4xBH4-RvMs-2d4/edit This was introduced in a recent blogpost: https://blog.mozilla.org/addons/2015/02/10/extension-signing-safer-experience/ and will be extended on on the same blog recently. In parallel we are changing the addon install flow to be fully doorhanger based. No more modal-dialog. (can currently be seen in Nightly)
Our current state on the message communicating to the user that uncertified addons have been disabled: https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=1148403 Our current state of the install flow can be found here: https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=1120996

Hello Joni, how it the update going? Do you need any more information on the new add-on verification process?
Hi Markus, I have a first draft up: https://support.mozilla.org/kb/firefox-prevented-unverified-add-installing If you'd like to make any changes without signing into SUMO, please add them here: https://docs.google.com/a/mozilla.com/document/d/1FSPycz2kF8rUvVHvfYUPMGkiGakTe1I05zvbmpCbz58/edit?usp=sharing Question: Will this need to be localized? I'm also looping in Mark Schmidt (our new Firefox Support Lead) so he's aware.

Add-on signing isn't happening until 40, with it being enforced in 41. https://wiki.mozilla.org/Addons/Extension_Signing#Timeline
I broke the old slug. New one here: https://support.mozilla.org/kb/firefox-prevented-unverified-addon Made changes so that it conditionally shows the following messaging: Version 40 - Firefox warns you against installing unverified add-ons. Version 41 - You won't be able to install unsigned add-ons.
(In reply to Joni Savage from comment #3) > Question: Will this need to be localized? Yes, please localize it. Thanks.

Does the URL need to have these % Version & OS variables ?

Sorry, I just remembered this is an in-product link. Here's the new URL: https://support.mozilla.org/1/firefox/%VERSION%/%OS%/%LOCALE%/unsigned-addons Yes, this one will require the version/os/locale variables. This will redirect to the article mentioned in comment #5.

These articles look good, I don't think there's anything else to do here. Please re-open if I'm wrong.
