+++ This bug was initially created as a clone of Bug #1145359 +++ Since bug 1145359 was fixed on v2.2 but not yet on trunk, we are opening this bug for trunk and closing the v2.2 blocker. The signal icons are getting stuck on searching even though they should show connected. As soon as the minute flips over though, the status bar seems to finally refresh and show the right icons. It doesn't appear to be a problem with notifications/having the wrong data, since there is absolute no new information fetched or pushed at the time of refresh (when the minute flips over) It also doesn't seem to be a drawing issue, since the "searching" icons still animates properly. Maybe this is a problem with the layout not refreshing/updating?

Spotted this enough to be able to test the WIP.

After a day of dogfooding, I think this did improve the situation.

Etienne, can you review this patch? I had to make changes to the unit tests file to add consistency.
