Details 
For improved usability including syntax highlighting and auto-indentation, the <textarea> being used for the Customizer's HTML editor should be replaced with the ACE editor: http://ace.c9.io/

ACE appears to be modular and we should be able to minimize bloat by only including the bare minimum required modules.

After investigating, it seems to be too resource-intensive and too clunky to embed a rich source code editor. Renaming this bug to at least address the need to re-format HTML source prior to editing.
