Details

How to reproduce: * Provoke a "Launch Application" dialog, e.g. by entering "ssh://" in the URL bar (Mac OS X) or "xboxgames://" (Windows 8+) * On the launch dialog, select "Choose an application" and select the Firefox application (Mac OS X) or firefox.exe (Windows) * A new firefox tab will open, trying to open the same url, thus provoking the same launch dialog * As long as you click "OK" on each dialog, this repeats infinitely * For added fun, check "Remember my choice" to automate the process. *This will open dialogs very fast until you close Firefox* Sometimes this will continue even after quitting Firefox (if a Firefox is in the process of starting) Expected behaviour: * Firefox should not be respect the "remember my choice" flag when being started with a custom scheme URL. * Web pages should still be able to open native applications using custom url schemes (this is a legitimate use case) and in these cases "remember my choice" should work. Remarks: Note that the fix should be independent of how the original link is created, i.e. whether the url is typed into the address bar or set by a web page (by an iframe or setting document.location). The address bar is just the easiest way to write a "how to reproduce".
What can I do to get this fixed? I know it's an edge case but this affects some of our customers and is really bad UX.
