Build Date & Platform Bug Found: PPC commercial seamonkey build 1999-08-11-08-m9 Overview Description: News is broken. News article does not download when you select the newsgroup. The thread pane remain empty and apprunner freezes. I suspect this bug is related to bug 10797 ([PP][blocker] Necko: Messenger hangs trying to send or receive mail). When you select the newsgroup name, the system freezes. I suspect it hangs trying retrieve recent news articles. Steps to Reproduce: 0) Removed my previous mozilla registry and profile 1) In Communicator, I subscribed to newsgroups under news server "news" and "news.mozilla.org". 2) Launch Appruner Profile wizard appears 3) Complete the wizard and enter a name for a new profile This should create the profile directory 4) Exit apprunner 5) Open the HD:System Folder:Netscape Users:<your nova profile> 6) Copy the Netscape Preference file and News and Mail folder to your 5.0 profile. 7) Launch Apprunner 8) Open Messenger 9) Click on the "+" icon next to the news/news.mozilla.org server name. 10) Select a newsgroup Application freezes Actual Results: Apprunner freezes. The thread pane remain empty. I am forced to force quit or reboot my system. Expected Results: The thread pane should be populated with news article. Additional Builds and Platforms Tested On: This problem does not occur in the win32 seamonkey build 1999-08-11-08-m9 Additional Information: This start to occur around the same time bug 10797 was filed. Under POP, the application freezes when I click on the Get Msg button.

I've updated http://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=11749 with this information as well. That other bug is assigned to the Necko team.
