Steps to reproduce:
I try to open pdf file stored on my hard drive.
Actual results:
A box is displayed asking me what to do (download or open with firefox).
I choose "open with firefox"
Expected results:
The pdf should be displayed.
When I'm trying the same thing with pdf stored online, there's no problem.
Actual results:
A box is displayed asking me what to do (download or open with firefox).
I choose "open with firefox"
.... and an infinite loop open blanck tab on firefox !!
Ok, I've refresh Firefox and it's working properly now.

For future reference, you could've just deleted mimeTypes.rdf from the profile folder while Firefox is closed.
