User Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 6.3; Win64; x64; rv:40.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/40.0 Build ID: 20150713153304 Steps to reproduce: 1. Type something in a text edit box (either a box in the browser interface i.e. search box, address bar or one in a page, no difference) 2. Select part of or all of the existing text in the box. 3. Type something with Microsoft Pinyin IME (built-in version with Windows 8.1) active in Simplified Chinese mode. Actual results: The previously selected text is unselected, and new characters appear at the starting position of the selection instead. Previously selected text is not deleted. Expected results: The current selected text should be removed and replaced with newly entered text.
Additional details: neither the default US English keyboard nor Microsoft IME (Japanese) has this issue. The problem is not resolved by starting Firefox in safe mode. If I recall correctly the issue probably started back in version 39 beta and did not exist before.
