Details

This recently occured this weekend, I had my smtp server set and never changed it. Then I went to change it this weekend from my local mail server to another. Now it won't send emails even when I change the outgoing mailserver back to what it originally was. The error message it comes up with is: Sending of message failed. An error occurred sending mail: Unable to connect to the SMTP server. The server maybe down or may be incorrectly configured. Please verify you Mail/News settings are correct and try again. Now I know that the server is configured properly because I can send using netscape mail and it is also my mailserver so I have looked over the configs. I have also tried to see if it's actually making a connection to the server using netstats on both machines and it appears not to make a connection. My machine is attacked to the same switch as the server so there is no problem getting to it.
Reporter, Try to delete the existing outgoing server you have and add the same server newly again and see if you are able to send. Or try to create a new profile and set up the account with outgoing server that you wanted to change to and see if this fixes your problem as well. Also mention build id when you report bugs.
FYI: November 2001 builds had problems sending messages after just opening the Account Settings dialog and selecting the OK button. Please look at bug# 108912, it also gives a workaround in comment# 7. If this is the same case then this bug should be marked a duplicate.
the comments from bug 108912 fixed it, but it was for pop and not imap. Also this occured when trying to change the default mailserver and not adding a 2nd account. I marked it at a dup *** This bug has been marked as a duplicate of 108912 ***
