User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Mobile; rv:42.0) Gecko/42.0 Firefox/42.0 Facebook app would launch a new browser for visiting a external link. There is no easy way to move back to Facebook app and closing the page of the external link.
The edge gestures should make this really easy, but if you don't know about them, I can see why this might be more difficult. NI on UX to consider this scenario for future implementations.

The MP Facebook app utilizes Fb's m.site. The behavior you have described is consistent with how their mobile site was designed. Although I agree this may not be ideal, it's the structure Fb uses for the time being. We will pass this feedback along to the partner and continue to evangelize for best practices.
