User Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 6.1; WOW64) AppleWebKit/537.36 (KHTML, like Gecko) Chrome/44.0.2403.157 Safari/537.36

Steps to reproduce:

Usually when I wake my computer after hibernation, Thunderbird 38.2.0 is completely unresponsive. Closing it and then reopening always fixes this. My operating system is 64 bit Win7 Professional. I do not know when the most recent update to Thunderbird happened, but I do know that I have only noticed this bug for the past week or two.
Please start *Windows'* safe mode with networking enabled
- win7
http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/windows7/Start-your-computer-in-safe-mode
Still In Windows safe mode, start thunderbird in safe mode
- http://support.mozillamessaging.com/en-US/kb/safe-mode

Does problem go away?

Summary: unresponsive after hibernation in win7 → 38.2.0 unresponsive after hibernation in win7
I realize that I misspoke. It is after SLEEP, not HIBERNATE that I have the problem. I cannot even figure out how to make my computer hibernate.
Flags: needinfo?(ftbaker)
I started Win7 in safe mode and thunderbird in safe mode. However, I could not make the computer sleep in safe mode so could not test it.

When in normal mode for Win7 and safe mode for thunderbird (with all add ons disabled), the problem persisted.
silly me I keep forgetting the safe mode and sleep combo doesn't work

If at all possible please install 38.1.0 https://archive.mozilla.org/pub/thunderbird/releases/38.1.0/win32/en-US/Thunderbird%20Setup%2038.1.0.exe and tell us results. If you can't, please tell if you also updated Thunderbird about 4-6 weeks ago (which likely would have been version 38.1.0)

OK, I turned off automatic updates and installed 38.1.0. For one time, waking after sleep, Thunderbird worked normally.

Second time worked fine.
and a third time

Looks like the problem came with 38.2?

I think I will reinstall 38.2 to see if the problem comes back.
You say it is "unresponsive". What exactly does that mean - it barely starts and hangs (everything you do in the UI is ignored)? Or it starts but just doesn't get new mail? If the later then we want to mark this bug as a duplicat of bug 1196662
Flags: needinfo?(ftbaker)
By unresponsive I mean that when I click on anything in the Thunderbird window nothing happens. No menu item, no email, no link, nothing. If I close (the red x is not unresponsive) the program and restart it all is fine. I have no idea whether or not it is reading new emails since I never waited long enough to see if mail was read. The problem has now disappeared apparently when I reinstalled 38.2.

Setting dependency to bug 1196662 instead of duping for ease of tracking. If dupingis appropriate, dup close, plese.
Depends on: 1196662
I take it back! It still is unresponsive after sleeping, but evidently not 100% of the time.

What is essential difference(s( of your problem from bug 1196662?
1. My Win7, their Win8
2. My sleep, their hibernate

For the most part, either very similar or identical.
Closing as dup of bug 1196662. If duping is wrong, reopen plese,
