In IMAP or Mail folders, a "size" column is present which displays the actual
size of a msg in KB. In news folders, only the number of lines of a msg is
present. I don't know if nntp gives the "size in KB" info to a client directly,
but, to be consequent, even news msg should display the size in KB instead of
"number of lines". Maybe this needs to be calculated somehow from the number of
lines? This can be a bit tricky, especially when dealing with various encoding
mechanisms...

NNTP headers contain only the number of lines. Outlook Express manages to give a
'size' reading for messages; I don't know how that program's estimation works.

We could compute an estimate of the size of a not-yet-downloaded message by
multiplying length in lines by 64 characters/line or so, and then perhaps
refine that estimate once the message comes across the wire.
