the following keyboard mapping cannot type the right character into the mozilla under WinXP Armenian, Georgian, Gujarati, Hindi, Kannada, Marathi, Punjabi, Sanskrit, Syriac, Tamil, Telugu How to reproduce them: Under English Window XP 1. Install "Armenian" keyboard layout 1.a. choose "Start:Control Panel" 1.b click "Date, Time, Language and Regional Options" 1.c click "Add other languages", it should show you the "Regional and Language Options" dialog and in the "Languages" tab. 1.d click on "Details" and it will bring up the "Text Services and Input Languages" dialog 1.e click on "Add..." button. The "Add Input Language" dialogbox should show up 1.f select "Armenian" as the "Input Language:" 1.g click "OK" on the "Add Input Language" dialogbox. 1.h click "OK" on the "Text Services and Input Languages" dialogbox 1.i click "OK" on the "Regional and Language Options" dialogbox 1.j you should see a floating "keyboard" menu show up on the top of the screen 2. launch latest version of Mozilla and start "New:Blank page" 3. switch the keyboard menu from "English" to "Armenian" 4. type a-z 5. open keypad 6. type a-z in keypad expect result: the composer should show exactly what it show in nodepad. actual result: composer always show ? (question mark) This is not a dispaly issue since if we copy from notepad and paste to composer it will show correctly, but when we copy from composer and paste to notepad it is showing ? (question mark)
hum... it seems win xp add a new message called WM_UNICHAR, and look at the following bug report for abiword http://bugzilla.abisource.com/show_bug.cgi?id=1314 this issue is currently listed as the top 10 issue for abiword (see http://www.abisource.com/information/news/2001/awn41.phtml ) ... also see http://www.ultraedit.com/products/features.html that ultraedit support wm_unichar
emeditor from www.emurasoft.com also claims they support WM_UNICHAR, I am downloading emeditor and ultraEdit now. If both of them allow input, then probably handle WM_UNICHAR message alone in the ANSI mode can address this issue and we should try a prototype. We can also ask the author of these two software for info too.
not really show support wm_unichar will address the issue. Just download the ultraedit, those keyboard does not work in ultraedit neither.
ok. the StarOffice 6.0 beta I got from Sun micro can handle these keyboard layout. maybe we should ask sun folks to help
