This crash is back...it just started showing up on the Trunk as of 4/2 (it was a topcrasher for Mozilla 0.9.9, but at the time was related to the dynamic theme switching, which has disabled since 3/24). Removing "crash related to registered mail chrome while mail chrome isn't available" from summary for now...since I'm not sure it applies anymore. Summary: Trunk M097 crash related to registered mail chrome while mail chrome isn't available [@ nsBox::Redraw] → Trunk M099 crash [@ nsBox::Redraw]
I have a feeling this might have been a side effect of some other issue that made builds from 4/3 really bad. I know there was a couple of blockers that day...so we'll have to wait and see if this goes away by itself in the next few days.
1163 hyatt 1.28 nsCOMPtr<nsIPresShell> shell; 1164 presContext->GetShell(getter_AddRefs(shell)); 1165 PRBool suppressed = PR_FALSE; 1166 shell->IsPaintingSuppressed(&suppressed); 1167 if (suppressed) 1168 return NS_OK; // Don't redraw. Painting is still suppressed. clearly shell is null. jpatel: my guess is that i could reproduce it the way i did, but i don't remember precisely how i did that. I think it was through mucking with chrome overlayinfo so that mail was registered as required by overlays, but without any url to actually provide it. I can provide a bandaid. I think my conclusion is that i didn't want to play with this code because it's old, spooky, and i didn't know the rules.
The spike in nsBox::Redraw crashes corresponds to a spike (although smaller) in nsImageBoxListener::FrameChanged crashes at the same time. Presumably the two are the same problem. timeless originally filed a bug on the other stack at bug 127609.
This kind of code pattern is visible in many places. I don't whether adding an extra if condition and returning FAILURE error condition is right approach or not. What is the impact of doing it that way ? ccing chofmann, selmer, and cathleen.
timeless: since this is in an area you're less comfortable making changes, does it make sense to reassign it? If so, can you get it to the right person?
This looks a fair bit like a crash I was seeing in Chimera believe it or not. It looks like the timer is somehow still animating the image even though all observers should have been unhooked.
well, i can try patching and crashing using the other bug's steps. but selmer's right, i don't really want to own this bug. hyatt volunteered, but he just started a vacation. picking a random assignee, and asking for qa help in finding someone who could help...

This looks like our top nightly talkback crasher. Getting this in for RC1 would clear out something we already know from the RC1 talkback data.
Blocks: 134771
timeless: Please post a patch fixing the problem you have mentioned in the Comment #7. Nominating for nsbeta1. Marking it as topcrash+(since we know what is causing the crash).

I believe dbaron is correct. The user comments in recent crashes with this stack trace largely make reference to 'broken UI' and 'grey screen', which is bug 135222.
Depends on: 135222
I agree...these crashes definitely seem related to bug 135222. A fix is ready for that bug, so we'll have to wait and see if these crashes go away after the checkin. I just don't want to flood that bug with a lot of topcrash info now...so I'm leaving this open as a separate bug.
The fix for bug 135222 went in yesterday 4/10...and so far so good. No new crashes according to Talkback after build 2002041011. If we don't see any crashes with these stack signatures in the next couple of days, this should be safe to mark fixed also.
How's the talkback data looking now, Jay? Does it look like the fix for bug 135222 really did fix this one?
Yeah, no crashes since 4/10. Marking fixed.

great!
I just crashed with a similiar stack in bug 122090 ... (maybe it's bug 127609?)

Vadim: Let's keep your latest crash open in bug 122090, this bug was a result of some problems related to bug 135222. There might be some relation though...so anyone interested should go take a look at bug 122090.
Disregard my last comment #27, I have opened new Bug 138292 for the recent crashes in nsImageBoxListener::FrameChanged.
