There's code in mozilla that will use begin and end resizing children.  I'm
pretty sure that gtk2 has a function that does this as well which might add a
nice perf boost.

We removed gtk2 in bug 1278282. Even if this bug might still be relevant with gtk3, it has been 16 years...
