Steps to reproduce:

I was reading an email
I deleted that email
I started reading the next email



Actual results:

tb started compacting
the panel containing the email went blank


Expected results:

the panel containing the email should have been unaffected

tb should do its compacting in the background
This is part of a large class of bugs related to compact, and definitely a duplicate.
bug 367689 is the closest. Another example is bug 520115
