Affected builds:
- Firefox 43.0RC build 1
- latest Developer Edition 44.0a2
- latest Nightly 45.0a1
Affected OS's:
- Windows 7 64-bit
- Windows 10 32-bit
- Mac OS X 10.9.5
- Ubuntu 14.04 32-bit
STR:
1. Start Firefox
2. Enable the search suggestions
3. Write a string in the URL bar
4. Move mouse over the suggestions
Expected results: Suggestion selected item has a different color of the hovered item. (Chrome like) Or some other way of differentiate the selected string from the hovered one (dotted rectangle maybe)
Actual results: Same color displayed for the selected suggestion and hovered one.

could you please attach a screenshot showing the difference you are looking for?
I don't think I understand how "selected" and "hovered" differ, since hovering an entry should select it.

Notice that in Chrome, the selected item is the first one and it's highlighted with blue color, also hovering through the other suggestions is indicated by the more pale blue. Thus I know if I would hover some suggestions and hit enter, the suggestions will not be selected since it's colored differently than the selected item.
Notice that in Firefox, the selected item is the first one and it's highlighted with blue color, hovering suggestions will strip the selected item from it's color so I don't know what item will be selected when hitting enter (not clicking the item).
I'm not saying copy what Chrome does, we could find another approach on this.
Hope this helps.

I see... This is more a question for UX than development, I see both approaches (ours and theirs) as confusing for non technical users, but I have no better ideas atm.

I think our behavior is utterly confusing as it is. Making the selected item follow the mouse cursor could be another option, which might be what you had in mind, but not indicating what action hitting <Enter> would trigger is not good.

put on stephen's list to look at behavior or and what we would like it to do.

Moving to p3 because no activity for at least 1 year(s).

On the latest nightly, the selected item is maintained as a dark blue, and the hover is a light grey. The selected item is still dark blue even if you hover over it then off again.
I believe we're therefore now working as expected.
