Details
User Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; Linux x86_64; rv:42.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/42.0 SeaMonkey/2.39
Build ID: 20151122033039
Steps to reproduce:
I cannot download http://james-ross.co.uk/mozilla/chatzilla/nightly/builds/0.9.92/2015122917/chatzilla-0.9.92-2015122917.xpi , maybe seamonkey tries to execute the file instead of just saving it? Or is the bug elsewhere? Anywayt, what happens is a crash.
Actual results:

tl;dr - obtained via gdb? Most libxul addresses are unresolved, which makes the dump practically useless.
Hmmm… Tell me if I'm wrong: /usr/lib64/seamonkey/blablabla doesn't come directly from Mozilla, but from some Linux distro? In that case it was probably built with no crash reporter, which means you have to use gdb, and if the libxul symbols have been stripped, well, you're left in the cold without a coat.
Now about installing an extension from some third-party site: left-clicking an .xpi in SeaMonkey or Firefox always means "I want to install this add-on in my current browser". In most cases, the browser will answer that that site (if it isn't AMO) hasn't got permission to install add-ons.
To download an addon onto your HD (from where you can either browse the directory with a file:/// URL then left-click, or else install by means of the "Install Add-on From File…" item in the rolldown widget near the top of the add-ons manager page), _right_-click the .xpi on the remote site then select "Save Link Target As…".
Please try again with a SeaMonkey 2.39 or later, but obtained from Mozilla. This will avoid any problems due to "unsupported" changes made by your distro's programmers "behind Mozilla's back", so to speak. You don't even have to uninstall your distro's build:
• If you are on a 32-bit OS, download the linux-i686 build available from the big green blob near the top of http://www.seamonkey-project.org/
• If you are on a 64-bit OS, there exists a linux-x86_64 release of SeaMonkey 2.39 but it is a little harder to find: go to http://www.seamonkey-project.org/releases/#contrib where you'll find the link to it. It was "contributed" by the SeaMonkey Council, which built it with all the same care as the i686 (32-bit) build. The only reason why it's billed as "unofficial" is that it hasn't yet got "enough" users, and IMHO the main reason why it has so few users is… that it is officially described as "unofficial".
Once you have downloaded the .tar.bz2 to your HD, install it as follows (I assume 64-bit, change the .tar.bz2 name as required for 32-bit):
test -e /usr/local/seamonkey && rm -Rv /usr/local/seamonkey
tar -jxvf seamonkey-2.39.en-US.linux-x86_64.tar.bz2 -C /usr/local || echo 'exit status' $?
(then if you don't get a nonzero exit status)
pushd /usr/local/bin
ln -svf ../seamonkey/seamonkey
popd
The above will unpack the .tar.bz2 as a new (or recreated) directory /usr/local/seamonkey and it will also create /usr/local/bin/seamonkey as a symlink to the new SeaMonkey executable. Since /usr/local/bin comes earlier in the $PATH than /usr/bin, invoking just "seamonkey" will now get you the Mozilla version, and invoking explicitly /usr/bin/seamonkey will get you the version from your distro.
I intentionally set the -v (verbose) command-line switch at three places so the rm (if invoked), tar and ln utilities will tell you what they do. It makes for a lot of virtual console paper, but since we're using "glass teletypes" instead of the rattling Teletype 33 teletypewriters of the first Unices it won't kill that many trees. ;-)
If you can't reproduce the problem with those "Mozilla" builds of SeaMonkey 2.39, then there is something wrong with your distro's version. OTOH, if you can, then the problem should be investigated further on the SeaMonkey side.

This is useless because your crash dump has no symbols. Please provide a crash dump with symbols.

Please me with an official binary build with crash reporter and debug and debug symbols enabled. BTW, I cannot get seamonkey-2.43a1.en-US.linux-x86_64 to run, so am anyway stuck with 2.39 (either my own compiled version or your seamonkey-2.39.en-US.linux-x86_64).

Hmm, the file https://archive.mozilla.org/pub/mozilla.org/seamonkey/releases/2.40/contrib/seamonkey-2.40.en-US.linux-x86_64.README points me http://hg.mozilla.org/build/buildbot-configs/file/default/seamonkey/linux64/comm-beta/release/mozconfig but that page says "not found".
Please tell me how it was build. Unless it was build without debug and debug symbols I would be probably wasting my time. ;-)

If you are doing your own builds put one of the following in your mozconfig file:
export MOZ_DEBUG_SYMBOLS=1
ac_add_options --enable-debug-symbols
