User Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 6.1; WOW64; Trident/7.0; SLCC2; .NET CLR 2.0.50727; .NET CLR 3.5.30729; .NET CLR 3.0.30729; Media Center PC 6.0; .NET4.0C; InfoPath.3; MS-RTC LM 8; .NET4.0E; rv:11.0) like Gecko

Steps to reproduce:

Open Thunderbird v38.5.1, app loads and after about 20 seconds a dialog box pops with message 'Warning: Unresponsive Script' and offers to 'Continue' or to 'Stop script' (A script on this page may be busy, or it may have stopped responding. You can stop the script now, or you can continue to see if the script will complete.
Script: chrome://messenger/content/mailWindowOverlay.js:1425 (and 1427)

NO other app navigation is permitted while dialog box is displayed.

Actual results:

Waiting does not produce any results as in script completes/times-out, etc. User must select one of two options. Selecting 'Continue' allows some unknown action to complete and access to email is permitted as expected. Same apparent outcome if user selects 'Stop script'.

Expected results:

No warning message, immediate access to email.
Thank you for your assistance with this most excellent app!!!!
1. is it a gmail account or involve large inboxes?
2. does problem go away if you start thunderbird in safe mode?

Thank you - I do have one gmail account, 11 associated with AOL possibly (Mail.com and its other extensions, ex. usa.com), and one yahoo account. There are three 'larger' inboxes, two with mail.com each with ~1000 messages and the one gmail account with 0 messages. The rest of the boxes either have no mail or only a handful (this includes draft, sent, junk, and trash). Lastly I should add I have many local folders and some are rather large.

Problem does occur when run in safe mode as well (add-ons disabled).
Just a quick correction to the prior comment, two larger inboxes (those with mail.com).
Are the non-gmail accounts pop or imap?

Does problem go away if you start *Windows'* safe mode with networking enabled
- win7 http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/start-computer-safe-mode#start-computer-safe-mode=windows-7
And still In Windows safe mode, start thunderbird in safe mode

Does problem go away if you disable account settings to check for new mail every N minutes?
Flags: needinfo?(eskimopie)
Hello,
I cannot start machine in Win7 Safe mode as it is locked down by Corp Admin via Bitlocker and they don't share key. Disabling check messages for new mail every N minutes also does not have affect - it is at TB start up I get the error however disabling checking for new mail start-up does eliminate issue. Sorry I cannot test 1st scenario and thank you for the continuing investigation.

Please note I double checked settings before my next test which was to compose message from an email account not setup in TB and then launch TB with setting to not check messages at start up and not only was script error not there as noted previously in last comment, the new message did appear so it did in fact TB did check at start up despite the TB setting to check at startup unchecked.
Last update; I reduced the number of email accounts in TB set to get check email at start up from 12 down to first number which did not produce error - 6. I further experimented with blend of accounts (yes Gmail, yes Yahoo, Yes Mail; no Gmail, no Yahoo, Yes Mail; etc.) and found it didn't matter which combo of 6 didn't produce error. Also only 4 of 12 have any email whatsoever, all mail.com accounts. I trimmed them down as much as reasonable but this did not have any noticeable impact (932/364/62/21 respectively). Did discover when adding a 7th account to check mail at startup (any account), I get the error (chrome://messenger/content/mail-offline.js:34). Also I checked all 8 accounts without email (inbox, sent, trash, etc.) to check at start up (other 4 as off) and I still get error (JS 1425). Finally I removed a couple of accounts then added back without any impact to reoccurring issue.
none of these accounts is large.

Are they all imap?

I've updated the bug summary to match comment 8 - thanks for those details.

But really need to know whether those are imap accounts? Or pop accounts?
