User Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Macintosh; Intel Mac OS X 10_11_3) AppleWebKit/537.36 (KHTML, like Gecko) Chrome/48.0.2564.109 Safari/537.36
Steps to reproduce:
I added my addresses via IMAP (in this case it's a gmail address) to Thunderbird and created some local folders for some filters. When I now go into one of these folders, I can quick filter by address, by subject and so on.
Actual results:
However, when I quick filter by mail contents, I get an empty result for whatever query I enter.
Maybe it's related to #541400 that the process is too slow. There are about 800 mails in that folder but even if I let it running, there is no single mail I get as a result. When I run the query, however, I see "Searching..." in the status bar, which indicates a problem similar to the ticket I referenced.
I just tested the same in the inbox and it's a matter of seconds to find all mails. So maybe it has something to do with the local folders.
Expected results:
Get the result of filtered mails.

you clicked on "body" on the far right of "filter messages by:"?

Also see bug 1245532.
Can you please clarify the issue: The folder you're searching in is a local folder or a folder you created on the IMAP server?
Yes, I clicked on the "body" filters on the right and yes, it's a local folder - not on IMAP. I just tried it with a folder on IMAP and it's working fine. I read somewhere on the net, that deleting a file in the profile folder forces thunderbird to re-create the database, which worked for him. Unfortunately, it doesn't for me.

Can you supply a message that is not found and the search term you used? You can drag the message onto the desktop as an .eml file and attach it to the bug.
You can also try to repair the folder (right-click, Properties, Repair Folder) before trying the filter again.
My experience is that search on local folders works reliably, but not on IMAP folders.

There are two searches: Quick/filter search and gloda (Global database) search. To reset the gloda search you remove global-messages-db.sqlite and it will be rebuilt. That doesn't affect the quick/filter search.
I repaired the folder, but the mails of the folder are still invisible for the quick filter using the body (as I said, subject, sender and so on works). Other mails in other local folders work well, but when I move a "broken mail" over to one of these folders or create a new folder, the mails are not getting found either.
I'll attach a .eml file to the ticket.

The message in attachment 8726164 [details] has this invalid HTML part:
====
Content-Type: text/html; charset=us-ascii
directory enquiries http://www.smartpraxis.com/index.php/beneficios/ mebendazole 100mg wash the simsim, cook in the dry pan and in cook until they start sticking to each other. roll into small<br />
====
A quick filter on "cook" finds the message, so I don't know what your problem is.

There is something weird going on with the message you submitted, I raised a further bug 1253857.

Changing the summary since I have the impression that it's caused by the invalid HTLM body. Also see duplicate bug 1258756.
Summary: Quick filter can't filter by content on individual folders → Message filters with invalid HTML body not working
