My system administrator applied Sun patches to the OS.
(SunOS 5.8, Solaris 2.8, are they the same?) Since
then realplay from the RealPlayer 8 still works,
but used as a plugin, it hangs. Killed from under
mozilla, mozilla recovers from the hang. I do not
see here how to attach a file, but I can provide
the showrev outputs before and after the patching.
My comment: I am afraid that the actual bug is in
the Sun patches. However, I can not prove.
Reproducability: 100%, one machine is not patched,
the plugin works always fine.
To reproduce: Well... I don't know... get two
machines with the two different Solaris
patch levels? Not a trivial task...

I found out what the problem was. Commenting out this region in
run-mozilla.sh solves the problem:
#if [ "$XSUNTRANSPORT" = "" ]
#then
# XSUNTRANSPORT="shmem"
# XSUNSMESIZE="64"
# export XSUNTRANSPORT XSUNSMESIZE
#fi
However, with the previous patch level it did fine.
Comment: this is probably not a bug in mozilla. Running realplayer
alone with these environment variables set it hangs.
However, knowing this, probably it would be wise to do something
with it. If mozilla needs these, than there should be a
workaround: when calling realplay, do unset them!

See also bug 130375: Moz0.97-0.99 works fine under patched Sol8 when setting
XSUNTRANSPORT=noshmem, Real-player works as well as plugin and launched from Moz.

this is something we need to resolve, we need to determine if support for Real8
issues be resolved via the use of RealOne. In this case we need to confirm with
Real if they will be providing a RealOne solution for Unix environment.

wfm using Mozilla 20030222 (compiled with GCC 3.2.2) on SunOS 5.8 Generic
108528-18 November 2002 + Real Player 8.
Solaris Sparc 8 installed with cluster patch from Feb. 20th 2003 and following
in /etc/system:
set shmsys:shminfo_shmseg = 0x100 (recommended when installing NS7 iirc)

Closing old bugs in the Plugins component. We aren't going to track issues in 3rd-party plugins in the Mozilla bug tracker. In addition, support for NPAPI plugins will be removed at the end of this year; for more details see the post at https://blog.mozilla.org/futurereleases/2015/10/08/npapi-plugins-in-firefox/
If there is a serious bug in Firefox, it needs to be filed in the "Core" product, "Plug-Ins" component.
