To create this bug, visit any web page with a file download hyperlink where the
file is a previously unknown MIME type. The standard "open or save" dialog box
should pop up. Click on Advanced, and fill in the values as required for the
new MIME type, including selecting a helper application. Then click OK. The
radio button next to the open option has to be clicked again before the OK
button can be pressed. (This is a bug, isn't it?) Not sure if it applies to
all platforms, but assigning to OS/2 owner to start.

Environment: OS/2 Warp 4, FP15, latest kernel, SciTech Display Doctor SE Jul
2001 1024x768x64K, Mozilla 2002022108, ThinkPad T21, 512MB RAM, MPTS WR08700
with patch.

I can't quite follow the steps to reproduce.

Initially, the "save to disk" radio button is selected, right?

It is still selected after returning from Advanced..., so the Ok button is
enabled on return (not disabled as implied above).

If I select "Open" then I have to press the Choose... button and select the
helper app again before I can press Ok.

That seems like a bug, and I'm going to use this report to fix that one.

Please clarify if I'm missing something.

There is at least one more bug very similar to this (involving selecting of a
helper app and unchecking the "always ask me" box and it forgetting the helper
app and always using save-to-disk).

i encountered this recently using 2002.02.27.08 comm bits on linux rh7.2. here
is what i did...

1. went to http://jrgm.mcom.com/bugs/mimetypes/

2. clicked on the "lemon_lane.mp3" link -- note: i don't have an OS-defined or
user-defined helper app to handle this type on my machine. so, the resulting
helper app dlg will have "save to disk" selected. the mimetype noted is audio/mpeg.

3. click on the Advanced button.

4. in the resulting New Type dlg, i enter MP3 for the Description, the mimetype
[audio/mpeg] and extension [mp3] are already filled out for me. i then entered
the path for the app i wanted to use, /usr/bin/xmms in my case.

5. clicked OK to dismiss New Type dlg.

result: when returned to the helper app dlg, the OK button was disabled!

strangely, this seemed to occur only the first time. i exited and restarted the
app, repeated my steps above, and the OK button in the helper app dlg was enabled.

WFM using NS 2002030703 on Win2K, though I used the choose button rather than
typing in the path. qawanted: which platform(s) is this happening on? Is there
a workaround, besides adding the mapping via prefs?

bug 86640 fixes this one, too, since it removes the Advanced... button
entirely :-)

Is this still an issue after bug 86640 was fixed? (there is no Advanced...
button any more...)
Fixed by removal of all the code involved. ;)
