(Keywords: regression)
Build ID: 2002-02-22-03, Windows 2000, but seen on other OSs (Linux).
Summary: Auto-subscribe URLs don't invoke NNTP account setup.
Steps to Reproduce:
(First, make sure you have no other news accounts)
1. In the URL field of Navigator, type:
news://news.mozilla.org/netscape.public.test.
2. Fill in the name and email portion of the Account Wizard.
3. Hit Next.
Expected Results:
Since it's a news:// (or, nntp://) URL, it should pre-select "Newsgroup Account"
and next pre-fill server (news.mozilla.org) and all you should have to do is
simply hit "Finish" at the 'Congratulations!' screen.
Actual Results:
You are presented with a choice for POP or IMAP servers, no news.
This should be fixed for 1.0, IMHO. (regression with the <wizard> widget).

I _really_ suck for not catching/filing this sooner (busy with Purify/perf).

I was able to cancel out of the Account Wizard and have this information
properly propogated to Account Manager/Folder Pane, but this would confuse the
living daylights out of users (and me, until I cancelled).

David, any chance your fix for shared folders (I saw you mentioned news urls in
it) fixes this?

I don't think my changes will fix this - I fixed what happens on the other end
of the operation, i.e., selecting the newsgroup when the subscribe is done.

Okay, here is a bit more info why these are so important:
http://help.netscape.com/nuggies/
http://www.mozilla.org/community.html
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=fh;en-us;news (Click 'Expand All'
to populate the list).
These are all common sites which list the auto-subscribe url format, which is
why I nominated this bug for nsbeta1.
Also note, in Stephen's comment 2-22-2002, he says that everything works OK,
except the use gets the Account Setup for a mail account after it's added the
Newsgroup. This isn't so bad if the user had not set up a Mail account already.
But if they have and they are an advanced user, they'll just dismiss the
Account Setup knowing they don't need to do this. But novice users may think
they have to add a mail account again since we're popping up the Account Setup
dialog asking them too. If they do, they'll probably add their existing mail
account again giving them a duplicate mail account.

Can you believe it? David Bienvenu's fix to our URI code fixed this. Nice.
