User Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 10.0; Win64; x64) AppleWebKit/537.36 (KHTML, like Gecko) Chrome/48.0.2564.82 Safari/537.36 Edge/14.14366
Steps to reproduce:
Install macOS 10.12 Developer Preview 1.
Install Microsoft Silverlight.
Install Firefox (tested 47, 48, 50).
Browse to a site using a Silverlight plug-in (eg. https://www.microsoft.com/silverlight/new-controls/demo/)
Click on the click to activate padlock.
Actual results:
The result is a blank white area where the plug-in should be - see attached image.
Expected results:
The plug-in should render the expected content (works correctly in Safari 10 - see attached image).

Jim, can you find somebody to look into this? We're on the clock for MacOS 10.12 release (Autumn), and this is still necessary for Netflix.

Let's track this for 49 to make sure it works for that release.

Steven, do you have any cycles for this?

I had planned to set up the macOS 10.12 preview this week anyway, so I went ahead and started it today. I'll take a look as soon as I'm up and running. Keeping n-i set.

I've been able to reproduce, but don't know what's going on yet. Netflix is completely broken as well.

Stephen, do you have any updates on the Silverlight plugin issues on macOS Sierra? Does Silverlight work on Sierra's Safari? Should I reach out to Microsoft's Silverlight dev team?

I don't have an update because bug 1280378 has been top priority. I intend to have another look tomorrow.

Chris/Stephen - I can confirm that Silverlight does work in the developer previews of Safari 10 for both macOS 10.12 Sierra and OS X 10.11.

I set up a 2010 Mac mini with the Developer Preview last night, and I was able to get Silverlight to work in Netflix and on the MS page using the latest FF nightly.
Stephen and jbleasdale - what kind of hardware are you running on?

Hardware is VMware in my case and latest Nightly won't launch.
Confirmed still a problem on 10.12 beta 2 and Firefox 48b5 for me.

Cool. Thanks for testing!

That might be startup hang bug 1284677.

I just retested this with Firefox 48.0b5 on macOS 10.12 installed in a VM and the issue is still present. At least Netflix now shows a dark page instead of html source code, but Silverlight content still does not load. Also confirmed via https://www.microsoft.com/silverlight/new-controls/demo/, which does not show Silverlight content either.
As reported in comment 9, Safari 10 on macOS 10.12 Sierra displays Silverlight content correctly.
Marcia, would you be able to check whether or not this issue is limited to macOS 10.12 running in VMs? Unfortunately, I don't have the hardware to install 10.12 on a physical device.

I think the issue is limited to VMs - from what I can see on my 10.12 hardware, Neflix plays fine in both the latest Dev Edition and the latest Beta, and content on https://www.microsoft.com/silverlight/new-controls/demo/ shows fine as well.

Hi :spohl,
Given the results of comment #14, it seems to me that the test results failed in VM might be a different issue? Any thoughts?

issues with the new release running in a vm aren't blocking.

In which case this should be closed. We're not going to spend time on it before we drop Silverlight completely.
