RESOLVED DUPLICATE of bug 125133

The save as dialog recently lost the ".." button which was replaced by the ancestor dropdown list. While the ancestor dropdown list is a good idea to let user go up several levels quickly it makes searching directories upwards level-by-level much more clumsy. A button to go up one level should be added, but should show a more expressive icon. Please note that nearly all save as dialogs in other linux and windows programs nowadays contain this button. Users will miss it. This is missing so badly that I dont think its an enhancement.
".." button removed with fixing of bug 121354. I don't have an idea of the Linux filepicker but I do like the Windows "up" button too.
-> bryner, cc'ing bz who removed this.

This was removed on purpose, per trudelle and mpt. > but should show a more expressive icon. Yes. I actually happen to agree. Get UE to agree. Marking duplicate of an older bug I have on this so we can keep all the discussion (if any) in one place. *** This bug has been marked as a duplicate of 125133 ***

I am not sure if a bug that has been marked as invalid is a good place to have this discussion. Why not reopen it if that is going to be fixed? Or is it? I think people are confused what the actual plans on this are. Reading http://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=125133 does not sound very promising and I definitely disagree that the missing up button should be a feature: it certainly is a bug.
Basically "I am not writing any code unless the UI spec gets changed". Because if I did, it would get backed out immediately. So you want to get the UI spec changed or find someone who's willing to write code only to have it backed out. The UI newsgroup may be an appropriate forum for this discussion. If we decide to add such a button, we better have a decent icon before we do it.
Boris, thanks for the info and I see your point. So is there a bug for UI discussion? Do those people who find that removing the button is a feature read this or other related bug reports? However it is amazing for me to see how difficult it seems to be to get a decent save as dialog implemented that close to 1.0 where people will really start to bitch about this ...
The bug for discussion is the one I dupped this to. See my comment. Feel free to reopen it if it'll make you feel more comfortable discussing. If you start a discussion, cc trudelle, bryner, and mpt.
