Details

Updating to rustc 1.12 will unblock LTO (bug 1268547) and panic=abort (bug 1268727).
rustc 1.12 is also not stable...
Nathan says he prefers to just use the LDFLAGS="-Wl,-no_compact_unwind" in official builds until 1.12 is stable.
